Action Sports Indoor Cricket Open Tournament:

Wijeratne, first week's star

The first week of the inaugural Action Sports Indoor Cricket Open Tournament saw Ceylinco Insurance, HSBC, NTB and HNB heading their respective groups at the Austasia Indoor Cricket Complex. The tournament started last week and will go on till the end of August.

Team Expo recorded the highest team score of 64 last week against The Warriors who recorded the lowest score that was 32.

S Wijeratne of HSBC scored 20 against Vinsiri which is the highest individual score so far. Isham Ghouse of Expo took four wickets for 16 against The Warriors. S Wijeratne of HSBC was adjudged the best player of the night in the first leg for his contribution from both bat and ball.

This week is the second leg of the tournament and RNH met Expo, Otoka Played against HSBC, The Warriors against Vinsiri and Deutche met Harlequins yesterday. Today, Ceylinco, Stuart, Madhura Ent and NTB will meet Sampath, Coats, Suntel and Aitken Spence respectively.

Tomorrow, the last day of the second week of the tournament will be a festive night as lot of other entertainment activities have also been scheduled. SLIC vs Mabroc, HNB vs Old Joes and Premaratne Bros vs Access are the fixtures lined up for Friday.

The tournament is organized by Action Sports Pvt Ltd in collaboration with Ceylon Indoor Cricket Association ( CICA) in which 24 teams from corporates, banks and clubs will compete in four groups. Matches will be played on every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 6.30 pm to 9.30 pm.

The tournament will also act as a trial to select the next National Indoor Cricket Team that will represent Sri Lanka at the Six-Nations Tournament which is to be held in India in September and the Indoor Cricket World Cup in South Africa in October.

Ceylinco Insurance - 8 points,
Suntel - 6 points

Group B:
HSBC - 7 points
Expo - 6 points

Group C:
NTB - 8 points
Harlequins - 6 points

Group D:
HNB - 8 points
Hirdaramani - 7 points
