SSP Wijeywardana retires from police service
SSP I A D A B Wijeywardana retired from police service on July 17 as
the CCTV division director after having served in the Police Department
for 39 years.
Having joined the Police Department as a probationary SI, a great
part of his service was directed to improve and plan the technical needs
of the Police Department. He also cooperated towards planning and
implementing the 119 projects.
He was also instrumental in providing and planning an uninterrupted
communication with regard to communication facilities for special
occasions such as the SAARC conference. In addition to having served as
a normal police officer in Batticaloa, Gampaha, Mathurata and
Nawalapitiya areas, he was also attached to police transport and police
supply divisions. He was promoted to the rank of Inspector of Police on
October 1, 1980 and later followed courses in mechanical and electronic
technology at the Sri Lanka German Training Institute and University of
Moratuwa.
Subsequent to a lengthy period of service in the police communication
division, he was promoted to ASP on June 1, 1994 and then promoted to
the rank of SP on May 22, 2000. During this period, he served in
Padaviya and Batticaloa.
He was promoted to the rank of SSP on May 22, 2005 and was
transferred to Mullaithivu as the Divisional Head of Mullaithivu
Division. He retired as the first director of the police CCTV division.
He has undergone training in radio technology in the USA, India,
South Korea, China etc.
During his period of service, he had been seconded for duty in
Liberia and East Timor under the United Nations Peace Keeping Force. His
school career had been in Jaffna, Moratuwa, Negombo and Dehiwela and
Isipathana Vidyalaya, Colombo was the longest.
His wife Yamuna Uthpala Wijesinghe is a teacher at Gateway
International School. They have two children.
