'Victory proves great confidence in President'

The convincing victory gained by the UPFA at the local council elections proved the great confidence reposed in President Mahinda Rajapaksa by the people for ending a cruel war and launching a massive development programme in the country, said the MEP in a press release yesterday.

The release said the results also showed the people's participation in the democratic process in the North and their faith in the development programmes launched there. Active participation of the people in the North in the local council election process itself was a victorious step forward. The people had also given a fine answer to the LTTE diaspora and the local and international forces trying to interfere and cause undue influence and pressure on Sri Lanka.

Six MEP members have been elected on the UPFA ticket to the Kantale and Homagama Pradesheya Sabhas, the Kesbewa UC and the Kaduwela MC and the MEP offered its gratitude and congratulations to the progressive people who ensured the UPFA victory and the victorious candidates.
