Online cargo clearance at Magampura Port

Method to be introduced to other ports:

The Ports Authority will introduce a more convenient cargo clearance method for the first time, Ports and Highways Deputy Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena said.

This facility will be available at the Ruhunu Magampura Mahinda Rajapaksa Port in Hambantota at the initial stage. Accordingly, an on-line payment gateway will be made available at the Magampura Port. This will enable clients to complete their documentation including making payments by logging on to a website.

According to the current practice, a customer has to visit 13 different places within the port premises to get their cargo cleared.

However, after introducing the new method, this will not happen at the new harbour in Hambantota.

Under the second phase, the on-line cargo clearance method will be introduced to other ports.

"The new system is convenient and efficient for customers and port staff. It is also time saving," Deputy Minister Abeygunawardena said.
