‘Market for local handicrafts’ in Kuliyapitiya

The National Crafts Council (NCC) has organized a ‘Market for local
handicrafts’ in collaboration with the Traditional Industries and Small
Enterprise Development Ministry at the Kuliyapitiya town hall from today
to July 30.
NCC Chairman Buddhi Keerthisena stated that the ‘market for local
handicraft’ is held to develop a market for handicraft production in the
North Western Province. Providing an opportunity to sell handicraft the
items without an involvement of a third party is also one of their main
aims, he added. This “market” will include 40 outlets and prominence
will be given to handicrafts of the area whilst promoting rare products
and designs.
Outlets have been reserved for lacquer, sesath, dumbara patterns,
masks, brass welding, sculpture, silver jewellery, musical instruments,
reed and bamboo products. The inauguration ceremony will take place
under the patronage of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise
Development Minister Douglas Devananda, Deputy Minister Weerakumara
Dissanayake, North Western Chief Minister Athula Wijesinghe and
Provincial Rural Industries Minister Gunadasa Dehigama, today at 10.00
am.
