Proposing to appoint a Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) to find a
political solution to the ethnic issue is the best and most prudent
decision taken by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Cooperatives and Internal
Trade Minister Johnston Fernando told the Daily News yesterday.
Minister Fernando said that it is the Parliament which represent all
political parties and ethnicities. “It is the Parliament which approve
laws of the country according to the democratic system and act as the
main legislator.
The Sri Lankan Parliament is the best place that can offer the best
solution for a main and important issue such as this,” he said.
Fernando pointed out that if President Rajapaksa alone introduced a
solution to the issue, all political parties would say it was a
dictatorial decision and not a democratic act. “Nobody can say that now.
Earlier, all political parties played games with the ethnic issue to
survive. If they play games again, they will destroy the whole country
and its people.
They should thank President Rajapaksa for proposing a Parliamentary
Select Committee as a democratic leader,” he said.
