N’Eliya, Batticaloa affected:
Over 500 hit by rains
Families evacuated to camps:

Over 500 persons in Batticaloa and Nuwara Eliya districts were
affected by heavy rains and strong winds. Nearly 189 people from 38
families have been affected by floods in the Nuwara Eliya district, said
Disaster Management Centre (DMC) Nuwara Eliya District Coordinator
Eranda Hemawardane.

The DMC has taken measures to evacuate those affected to camps in
Queensbury School and Bogahawatta.
Nine families have been provided shelter at Bogahawatta camp and 129
at Queensbury School. The DMC provide cooked meals to the affected, he
said.
Hemawardane said that the DMC has also taken measures to send back
the affected people to their homes and build houses for those who lost
their houses.
About 302 people in Manamunai South West DS Division and 29 people in
Eravur Pattu DS Division in Batticaloa were affected from strong winds
and heavy rains.
One person was killed and two were injured in Batticaloa District and
affected families were evacuated to safer locations, the official said.
