The Second leg of the much awaited William Gopallawa Shield rugby
encounter between Vidyartha College and Ananda College which was
scheduled to be played at Nittawela today (Saturday July 23 has been
indefinitely postponed)
Rugby coach of Vidyartha College Anil Jayasinghe said that this
postponement is at the request of Ananda College who indicated their
desire to participate at the Zahira College Sevens scheduled for this
weekend.
Vidyarthians are a disappointed lot as the arragnements for this
second leg was made a long time before and they had also invited the
chief guest, the former Minister of Sports C B Ratnayake who excelled
for Vidyartha in sports including rugby as a stand off and was
instrumental in developing the Vidyartha College grounds at Nittawela.
He said that they had indicated to Ananda College that this match be
played on July 29 and this was not acceptable to them on grounds that it
was closer to the GCE Advanced Level Examination. |
