Over 250 NPOC observers at polls

National Polls Observation Centre’s (NPOC) National Organizer Rasanga Harischandra stated that NPOC has taken measures to appoint over 250 observers and five mobile vans to monitor the Local Government elections to be held on July 23.

All the observers are professionals with a good social standing.

There are several measures taken by the Elections Commissioner to hold this election in a peaceful manner and according to the observations of NPOC all those measures are practical. Deploying two policemen at each checkpoint in the Northern Province is one of those measures, he added.

Harischandra was addressing a special press briefing at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute yesterday.

There are only 67 complaints from certain electorates such as Kaduwela, Minuwangoda and Monaragala. But everything is in place to hold the election in a free and fair manner, NPOC Executive Committee Member Athula de Silva said. “According to what we can see great enthusiasm from the Northern community than before.
