Keep environs free of mosquito-breeding sites

The public should continue to be vigilant and pay special attention to keep their properties free of dengue mosquito breeding sites.

'Destroying dengue mosquito breeding sites is the main and most effective way of preventing dengue', a Health Ministry spokesman said.

Meanwhile the Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry has released the latest statistics on the dengue situation in the country.

According to the statistics a total of 12,505 dengue cases had been reported from all parts of the country by July 20.

According to the same statistics, the highest number of dengue cases, 4,779 had been reported from Colombo district.

Colombo Municipal Council area recorded 1,804 Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) cases.

Other parts of Colombo district recorded a total of 2,975 dengue cases.

Gampaha district recorded a total of 1,683 dengue cases. Kalutara district recorded a total of 719 dengues cases.

During the past 20 days 2,288 dengue cases had been reported from all parts of the country.

Last month a total of 3,412 dengue cases and 14 deaths had been reported from all parts of the country.
