Project to conserve Ma Oya river bank

The Geological Survey and Mines Bureau under the direction of the
Environment Ministry has intervened to conserve Ma Oya river bank which
is threatened by erosion.
The Ma Oya river bank adjacent to the Wickramasheela National School
in Kurunegala District had been subjected to gradual erosion posing a
danger to the school. This matter was brought to the attention of the
minister by the Principal and the Past Students’ Association of the
school.
The minister taking immediate action laid the foundation stone for
the conservation of Ma Oya river bank recently. The estimated cost of
this project is around Rs 4 million. |
