Gampaha Regent IS swimming champions


The champions of the meet
Gampaha Regent International College team

Gampaha Regent International School swimming team with 294 points emerged champions at the Gampaha district swimming meet conducted for the eighth successive year by Regent International School, Gampaha. The swimming meet was held at the Regent International School swimming pool last weekend. The Negombo Gateway College swimming team finished as runners-up with 189 points.

The chief guest at the meet was swimming sensation Mathew Abeysinghe who represented Commonwealth Games in India last year. Regent International School Chairman Nelson Gunasekara and Director Anura Gunasekara were also present. The meet was sponsored by Sri Lanka Insurance, Ceylon Cold Stores Limited, Makeen Bookshop, Central Finance, People's Bank, Nation's Trust Bank and Metropolitan Agencies. The meet attracts many young swimmers of the area and over the years, this has become a much looked forward event among sports enthusiasts of the area.
 


Champions - Schools-boys: Gampaha Regent International School. Runner-up – Sapugaskanda Yoshida Shokanji International School.

Schools-girls: Negombo Gateway College. Runner-up – Gampaha Regent International School.

Champion swimmers:

Under-10 boys: Rasindu Jayathilaka (Sapugaskanda Yoshida Shokanji International School).

Under-10 girls: Chihiro Fernando (Negombo Gateway College).

Under-12 boys: Tharaka Nadun Sirimanna (Gampaha Sunethra Primary School).

Under-12 girls: Hiruni Perera (Negombo Harischandra National School).

Under-14 boys: Pasindu Dilshan Sirimanna (Gampaha Bandaranaike Vidyalaya).

Under-14 girls: Lankika Melani Fernando (Negombo Ave Maria Convent).

Under-16 boys: Madura Weerasinghe (Gampaha Regent International School).

Under-16 girls: Varuni Muthukutti (Gampaha Regent International School).

Under-19 boys: Sulanjana Nadeera Perera (Galahitiyawa Central).

Under-19 girls: Tashia Dias (Negombo Gateway College).

Tashia Dias of Negombo Gateway College was adjudged as the Best Swimmer. Nearly six hundred swimmers from 36 schools in the Gampaha district participated in the meet.
