Hotel help killed over bill dispute

A hotel employee in Kotikawatta succumbed to his injuries after being admitted to the Colombo National Hospital with stab injuries.

Three persons who had tried to escape without paying for their food were involved in a dispute with the hotel employee, following which one person had stabbed him.

The suspects had fled and the Wellampitiya police are investigating.


Gold chain grabber nabbed

A suspect was taken into custody for snatching gold chains from women in Gampaha, Minuwangoda and Veyangoda areas by the Veyangoda police.


Art exhibition

‘Harmony and Rhythm’ an exhibition of art organized by the Indian Cultural Centre, Colombo in association with the Cultural and Arts Ministry at the National Art Gallery was opened by abstract painter Ouida Keuneman yesterday.

Ministers, Members of Parliament, eminent cultural personalities and art lovers were present.

The paintings are from four female artists from India. Music, rhythm, elements, of design and human predicaments are motifs used by the artists in their creative works.

Twenty nine works of the artists are displayed in the exhibition. The exhibition will remain open each day from 11 am and 7 pm till July 24.


Artwork for Christmas stamp

An islandwide competition has been organized to select a suitable artwork for the Christmas postal stamp to be issued in view of the forthcoming Christmas celebrations. The Department of Christian Religious Affairs has organised this competition.

Headless body found

An unidentified headless body has been discovered from the Marawila Katuneriya shores on July 18. The Marawila police, suspecting this person to have been a victim of a serious crime, had kept the body at the Chilaw hospital mortuary for post-mortem.


One injured in Grandpass Police Station fire

One police officer was injured after a fire broke out at the Grandpass Police Station yesterday morning.

According to a police officer at the Grandpass Police Station, the fire broke out due to a gas leak.


Suspect nabbed with heroin

Pamunugama Police have arrested a person at Usvetakeiyawa in possession of nine grams and 720 miligrams of heroin. The Police are conducting further investigations.
