Temporary IDs for Northerners till 6 pm

Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya yesterday said that temporary ID cards will be issued to people living in Kilinochchi and Thunukkai areas till 6 pm today.

Voters without national ID cards or any proof of identity acceptable to the election officials must apply for a temporary ID card from the relevant Grama Niladharis Elections Commissioner Deshapriya told media yesterday.

The passport, driving licence, pensioners ID card and the bhikku ID card will be valid in addition to the national ID cards to cast their votes at the local government elections to be held on July 23.

Two meetings are scheduled to be held today in Thunukkai and Killinochchi to discuss the election arrangements, the Commissioner said.
