Army stun Police

Sri Lanka Army Sports Club put up a splendid performance to beat Sri Lanka Police Sports Club 27-13 in their Caltex inter club 'A' division league rugby tournament match worked off at Havelock park yesterday. Army SC collected their points from two goals, two tries and one penalty after having led 15-6 at half time. Police SC responded with one goal and two penalties.


Seven a side soccer

A seven-a-side soccer tournament organized by the Mosque Garden Club, Colombo 12, will be held at the Campbell Park tomorrow from 7.30. The tournament is organized to commemorate the sixth anniversary of the club.


Kushal, Kanishka for Sri Lanka 'A' team

Minister of Sports Mahindananda Aluthgamage, has authorized the withdrawal of two members from the Sri Lanka 'A' team, Dinesh Chandimal and Dhammika Prasad who have been called for National duty for the forthcoming home series against Australia. The two players will be replaced by Kushal Janith Perera and Kanishka Elvitigala. In addition Dimuth Karunaratne will be the vice captain.


Lumbini win

Lumbini College pulled off a hard fought 14-5 victory over Prince of Wales College in their Singer inter school under 20 division two league rugby tournament match worked off at Moratuwa yesterday.

The winners collected their points from two goals after having built up a close 7 nil lead at half time. The Cambrians responded with a solitary try.

Chatura Mihiran and Kaushal Manuppriya scored a try each for the winners with Lahiru Nanayakkara converting both tries.


Royal take on Science

Table leaders Royal College, Colombo will play host to Science College, Mount Lavinia in their Schools Singer League 'A' division segment one match at the Royal Sports Complex at 4.30 pm today.

St Joseph's College, Colombo will be the guests of S Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia in their Singer league 'A' division segment one match for the Lady Jayatilleke Shield at Mount Lavinia today.


Inter-provincial Twenty20 will begin on July 21

The Sri Lanka Cricket organized Inter Provincial Twenty20 cricket tournament will commence on July 21 with all matches to be worked off at the R. Premadasa Stadium.

The teams competing in this tournament are Wayamba, Basnahira, Ruhuna, Kandurata and Combined Provinces. The preliminary round matches will be played on July 21, 23, 24, 26 and 27 respectively.
