Samaposha under 13 soccer finals from tomorrow

The finals of the under 13 all island inter school football championship sponsored by Samaposha will be held from July 16 to 18 at German-Sri Lanka Football Training Centre, Matara and Uyanwatte playground, Matara.

This was revealed at a press briefing held at Sri Lanka Football Federation (SLFF) auditorium on Wednesday.

SLFF in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Schools Football Association (SLSFA) and Ceylon Biscuits Limited together with Matara Football Association is conducting the event with the participation of 21 teams each from boys and girls categories.

Nearly 12,000 young footballers, 500 boys’ schools and 100 girls’ schools participated in the preliminary rounds while 42 teams qualified for the final leg.

Accommodation for the players has been arranged at St Thomas’ College, St Servatius’ College, Matara Central College, St Thomas’ Girls’ College, Sujatha Balika Vidyalaya and Mahanama Girls’ School, organizers said.

Speaking on the occasion SRSFA president Rev. Bro. Granville Perera said that the tournament was a great opportunity for both boys and girls to step into the most popular sport in the world.

Plenty Foods Pvt Limited Director /General Manager Shammi Karunaratne said that they were keen to sponsor the event for the third time especially in a sport like football which require a high degree of energy.

Boys teams: Veluwana MV, Colombo, St Aloysius’ College, Ratnapura, Al Adhan MV, Badulla, Jabbar Central College, Kandy, Richmond College, Galle, Dharmapala MV, Kotte, Fordyce TMV, Hatton, St Joseph’s College, Anuradhapura, Holy Cross College, Kalutara, Zahira National College, Galle, De Mazenod College, Kandana, Aligar MV, Batticaloa, Al Aqsha College, Trincomalee, Wijeraja MV, Polonnaruwa, Zahira College, Gampola, Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala, St Henry’s College, Jaffna, St Xavier’s College, Mannar, Uriththiru MV, Kilinochchi, Maris Stella College, Negombo, Hameed Al Husseinie College, Colombo.

Girls teams: Lumbini MV, Colombo, Malwala MV, Ratnapura, Bibile Medagama NS, Badulla, Hewaheta MV, Kandy, Rohana Balika MV, Galle, Bomiriya Central, Kotte, Fordyce TMV, Hatton, Galenbindunuwewa MV, Anuradhapura, Velapura MV, Kalutara, Pallekalugala MV, Kegalle, Jayakody MV (Ganemulla), Wattala, Bandaranayake MV, Ampara, St Sebastian’s MV, Chilaw, Girithalegama MV, Polonnaruwa, Buddhist Girls MV, Gampola, Kavisigamuwa MV, Kurunegala, Chavakachheri Hindu, Jaffna, Punithvalanar RCTMS, Mannar, Sivanagar MV, Kilinochchi, Ave Maria Convent (Branch School), Negombo, Maliyadeva Balika MV, Kurunegala.
