Youth Parliament:

Maiden session tomorrow

The maiden session of the Youth Parliament will be held tomorrow at the Sri Lanka National Youth Services Council in Maharagama under the patronage of Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa. This programme is a concept of Youth Affairs and Skills Development Minister Dullas Alahapperuma to nurture and preserve democracy and good governance in politics.

National Youth Service Council Director General Lalith Piyum Perera said that 335 youth parliamentarians elected by regional committees of the Sri Lanka Youth Society Association will participate in the maiden session. He observed that it will provide a better platform for Sri Lankan youth to present their novel ideas and exchange views.

The sittings of the Youth Parliament will be conducted following the traditions of the Sri Lankan Parliament.

He added that this will be a good opportunity for the youth who intend taking to politics in the future to get a sound knowledge on democracy in politics. This will also help to create future political harmony since youth representing the North, South, East and West come under one roof, he said.
