Foreigner with forged passport nabbed

CID officials at the Bandaranaike International Airport arrested a
foreigner who attempted to leave for Italy using a forged passport.
The suspect was remanded till July 26 by the Negombo Magistrate. CID
is investigating.
Five arrested with venison

The Police Special Task Force arrested five persons with venison in
Hambantota on Wednesday.
STF personnel attached to the Hambantota camp on patrol arrested the
five persons at Panwewa Gannoruwa in Hambantota at around 2 am.
Another birth at Pinnawela

Another elephant was born at the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage
yesterday.
The elephant named ‘Mali’ brought from Inginimedilla, Polonnaruwa in
2001 gave birth to the new cub yesterday. Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage
officials said that the cub is in good health.
Housing for the needy
Muslim Aid Sri Lanka (MASL), handed over six houses to Tamil, Muslim
and Sinhalese families in Moneragala.
The project was implemented with the support of the Wellassa Islamic
Welfare Society-WIWS at a cost of over Rs 2 million.

Golden Chariot Festival
The annual Golden Chariot Festival of Arulmihu Sivasubramaniya Swamy
Kovil, Kew Road, Colombo 2, will be held on July 25.
The main Golden Chariot procession will commence at 6.30 am and will
continue until 1.30 pm on July 25.

Islamic lecture
An Islamic lecture, jointly organized by the Board of Trustees of
Majmaul Khairath Jumma Masjid and Zeylan Edu Consultants, on the
following topics will be delivered by As-Sheik Mufthi M H M Yoosuf (Abu
Umar), immediately after Isha prayers on July 18 and 19 at Majmaul
Kahirath Jumma Masjid, 30/1, Nimal Road (Marine Drive), Colombo 4.
Topics covered will be purification of the heart and the organs,
affairs of the heart, safeguarding the tongue and eye, Ramadhan versus
our Customs, Ramadhan – the month of Quran, preservation of the Quran,
what the Holy Quran demand from us, women and the month of Ramadhan,
Charity and Zakath in Ramadhan, dilemma of the Muslim youth today,
e-drugs and our youth, home schooling in this modern world and
co-education, multi-culture and its reflection in the society.
Females must come in the prayer garb.

Minister meets Mission Heads : External Affairs Minister
Prof G L Peiris held a meeting with the Heads of Mission of
EU member countries and the EU Delegation Office based in
Colombo on July 12 at the ministry. Ambassadors of Germany,
France and Italy, the British High Commissioner and CDAs of
the EU Delegation Office, the Netherlands and Romania
participated at the meeting. Secretary, Ministry of External
Affairs, K Amunugama and other senior officials of the
