Minister briefs on clearing process for construction at landslide prone areas

The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) has implemented a series of awareness programmes to explain the process of issuing clearance for all constructions that take place within the 10 landslide prone districts, Disaster Management Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said. He was speaking at a ceremony organized by NBRO to launch its website at the NBRO auditorium on Wednesday.

The minister said NBRO has been developing over the years as a competent research institution in Sri Lanka.

"NBRO serves as the research arm of the Disaster Management Ministry. NBRO recognizes the diversity of the problems faced by the nation in their living environment. Therefore NBRO is geared to achieve suitable solutions to maintain and improve the high quality of life," he said

"The objectives of NBRO is to reduce disaster risk," the minister added.

NBRO which was established in 1984 is a technical service provider and research and development institution where experts from multiple disciplines have teamed up to create a disaster free safe environment for the nation.
