Radhampala Sri Sumangala Vidyalaya has uplifted Southern Province
education
Radhampala Sri Sumangala Vidyalaya has played a pivotal role to
uplift education in the Southern Province, Youth Affairs and Skills
Development Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said issuing a message on the
occasion of the centenary anniversary of Radhampala Sri Sumangala
Vidyalaya.

He said that the school has produced a large number of high profile
persons with balanced education. He observed that the school provides
education in a Buddhist background and teaches the value of traditional
rituals to students.
The centenary anniversary will be held at the school premises today.
A memorial stamp will also be issued to mark the anniversary. The school
founded by Most Ven Bambarende Sri Sumangala Rathanajothi Thera was a
challenge to the missionary education which took roots in Sri Lanka
under British colonial rule. Ven Sumangala Rathanajothi Thera was a
famous indigenous medical doctor with exceptional talents curing
patients with cataract and those bitten by snakes.
The school began with 15 students. This school is the 250th Buddhist
school in the country. In 1962, it became a government school.
It was upgraded to a Maha Vidyalaya status in 1963 and became a
central college in 1991. There had been 23 former principals in this
school and seven had been past students of the same school. The school
facilitates Arts and Commerce streams for the A-Ls. The school has also
excelled in National Level Dancing contests.
The students of this school has excelled in many fields.
