Europa Philharmonie concert cancelled

It is with deep regret that Goethe-Institut has to announce that the concerts by Europa Philharmonie, scheduled for July 18 and 19 at Mount Lavinia Hotel will not take place due to unforeseen circumstances.

On Tuesday the Goethe-Institut was informed on problems with the travel arrangements of the orchestra, which occurred unexpectedly and could unfortunately not be sorted out. The decision to finally drop back from the concert tour – despite the efforts of the organizers – was made by the management of Europa Philharmonie.

Goethe-Institut would like to thank all partners and sponsors, who have been involved in the local facilitation of the concerts, for their support and enthusiasm.

We would like to assure all music lovers in Sri Lanka that Goethe-Institut will present some classical music highlight in its upcoming programs.

Apollo 13

The youth movie Apollo 13 (1995) will be screened on July 16 at 3.30 pm at the American Centre, Colombo (Duration - 84 minutes).

The movie is based on the true story of the ill-fated 13th Apollo mission bound for the moon. Astronauts Lovell, Haise and Swigert were scheduled to fly Apollo 14, but are moved up to 13.

It’s 1970, and America have already achieved their lunar landing goal, so there’s little interest in this “routine” flight until that is, things go very wrong, and prospects of a safe return fade.
