Pecha Kucha Colombo live at the Warehouse
Nipuni WIMALAPALA
Street art project |
When you hear the words Pecha Kucha, you might wonder what it is, but
no need to wonder anymore. Pecha Kucha simply means 'Chit Chat' in
Japanese. Pecha Kucha is very popular in Japan and 400 other countries
and it was devised by Klein Dytham Architecture in Tokyo in 2003.
This event will take place for the first time in Sri Lanka on July 23
at Warehouse Project, Maradana.
The framework of the event is set for each presenter to stand up and
present their work within 20 slides with 20 seconds given for each
slide.
Pecha Kucha Colombo will feature eight presenters ranging from young
fashion designers, artists, graphic designers and photographers.
Enthusiastic participants |
Pecha Kucha Colombo will be an event for emerging local talents to
meet, network and show their work in public. The first of three events
planned in Sri Lanka is expected to attract over 1000 attendees and it
will go beyond the norms of past events, which have been held in
Colombo, in every sense.
"The brilliance of Pecha Kucha is that anyone of any age can present
any creative thought or idea, be it a creative project, hobby, pictures,
music, graphic designs or floral arrangements. This is also a great
platform for like minded creative people to meet and interact with each
other on a fun and friendly level", Pecha Kucha Colombo team coordinator
and Saskia Fernando Gallery Director Saskia Fernando said.
Pecha Kucha Colombo is a non-profit initiative and all proceeds of
the events will be donated to ACT Lanka, supporting relief efforts in
the North. |
