False information to C4

Court nod to interrogate suspect:

Colombo Additional Magistrate K Jayatileke yesteday granted permission to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) through a one month detention order, to interrogate a suspect who supported to insult the Sri Lankan government with the support of fake footages telecast over Channel 4.

The CID arrested the suspect in Kandy on a complaint from a businessman, a resident of Flower Road, Colombo. He provided the information to the CID following the suspect’s behaviour.

Police Special Investigative Unit IP Ranjith Munasinghe and a team of police personnel arrested the suspect. The suspect is said to have arrived in Sri Lanka from UK.

The Colombo Magistrate’s Court granted permission to the CID to detain and question the individual arrested under suspicion for providing false information to Channel 4.

The suspect was taken into custody following information that he had provided false information that the Sri Lanka Army had committed war crimes, Police told Court.

The Magistrate’s Court granted permission to detain and question the suspect after considering the facts.
