'Proper training for public service graduates vital'

President Mahinda Rajapaksa stressed the importance of having a viable mechanism to train graduates in the public service and those who are to be recruited to the service in the future.

The President made this observation when he met representatives of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Graduates' Association at Temple Trees yesterday. The President said the UPFA government on several occasions, recruited graduates to the government sector.

The association appreciated the government's decision to recruit 15,000 graduates to the public service again and presented a package of proposal to the President to be included in the proposed graduates service constitution.

He said that a large number of graduates who passed competitive examinations were given postings in the public sector from time to time. Telecommunication and Information Technology Minister Ranjith Siyamabalapitiya and Secretary to the President Lalith Weerathunga also participated.
