Sri Lanka threw away a golden opportunity of recoding their maiden victory when they went down fighting to Barbados 59-63 in their World Netball Championship group fixture worked off at the Singapore indoor stadium in Singapore yesterday.

After conceding the first quarter 13-18 the Lankans bounced back in style to snatch the second quarter 18-16. They consolidated their position thereafter and went on to clinch the third quarter too 10-7.

However Sri Lanka committed several mistakes during the latter stages as Barbados stormed back to turn the game in their favor while winning the deciding fourth quarter 19-11.

Sri Lanka’s Gayathri Lankatilleke was named as the Most Outstanding Player in this game. Sri Lanka will now take on Singapore today to decide the 13th and 14th position in the tournament.
