Vandalizing incident at Miriswatte estate

Ports and Highways Deputy Minister Nirmala Kothalawala recently visited Miriswatte Estate, Bulathsinhala and settled a strike launched by estate workers against the alleged destruction caused to their home garden cultivations by the management.

The workers said that they had taken great pains to cultivate their homesteads with vegetables, papaw and other food items under the Divineguma programme intended to uplift their family income.

They alleged that watchers attached to the estate on instructions of the estate manager had destroyed the entire cultivation without any reason.

The Deputy Minister who pacified the agitated workers arranged to settle the dispute with the intervention of the Commissioner of Labour. Bulathsinhala Pradesheeya Sabha member S. Jayaraj accompanied the Deputy Minister.
