"Action will be taken to recruit new Grama Niladharis for the 82
Grama Niladhari vacancies in the Batticaloa district at the beginning of
next year," said Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister W. D.
J. Seneviratne.
"The lack of Tamil language proficiency among applicants is the main
reason for the vacancies," he said.
Minister Seneviratne was addressing the Batticaloa Grama Sewaka
meeting held at the Municipal Council recently. He made an inspection
tour in the Batticaloa district and opened a newly built circuit
bungalow in Sewa Piyasa Office in Wakare. Staff officer's quarters of
the District Secretariat and the administrative building in the
Batticaloa district was also opened by Minister Seneviratne. The
Batticaloa district had seen rapid development due to the Mahinda
Chinthana Future Vision Nagenahira Nawodaya project, he said. The Public
Administration and Home Affairs Ministry and Strengthening Civil
Administration Programme (SCAP) of Kuwait have spent Rs 60 million for
the constructions.
A batch of 10 Grama Niladharis whose service has been appreciated
will be granted scholarships in 2012 for short-term trainings in foreign
countries, the minister added.
All measures will be taken by the Public Administration and Home
Affairs Ministry to establish 25 Sewa Piyasa Offices in each district.
Essential services such as Grama Niladhari, Samurdhi Niladhari, family
health service and agriculture service will be provided by those Sewa
Piyasa offices, the minister said. Public Administration and Home
Affairs Deputy Minister Vijaya Dahanayake and Resettlement Deputy
Minister Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan also participated. |
