Beruwala roads developed

'About 349 roads in the Beruwala area have been reconstructed at a cost of Rs 160 million, funded by the Economic Development Ministry, said Fisheries and Aquatic resources Development Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne.

The Economic Development Ministry has allocated funds to develop another 25 roads. The Western Provincial Council will carpet all the main roads at Beruwala, he added.

The minister was addressing a meeting after inaugurating Aluthgama-Kalawila road reconstruction activities recently.

The government will develop the Beruwala fisheries harbour, he said. The government has allocated Rs. 1,370 million to a water project in the area. The project will supply water to every home at Beruwala.

The minister said arrangements have been made to initiate self employment programmes through the Divi Neguma development programme.

It will help promote the fisheries industry and the living standard of the fishery community.
