'West harassing Lanka to consolidate its deteriorating imperialist
power'

'The main cause behind the Western influences against Sri Lanka is to
consolidate their deteriorating imperialist powers, said Rupavahini
Corporation chairman Prof Mohan Samaranayake.
He was addressing a meeting of the Sri Lanka Independent
Professionals Organization held at the Western Province Governor's
Office yesterday.
He said that recent incidents such as Channel 4 documentary and
Darusman report were evidences of mounting Western influences and
pressure on Sri Lanka. He observed that the intention behind all these
attempts is to demand an international query on the alleged war crimes
and human rights violations during the last stages of the humanitarian
operation.
He observed that their objective is to produce the country's
leadership and triforces' heads before the International Criminal Court
(ICC). Refuting the recent claim of the UNP that a case cannot be filed
before the ICC since Sri Lanka is not a signatory to it, Prof
Samaranayake said that the ICC constitution has provisions for this move
if either the UN Security Council or the ICC prosecutor decided.
He observed that this is a clear threat for the peace and sovereignty
of the country. He suggested that to avoid this threat the country's
internal conflicts should be solved within the country while attaining
economic sovereignty. He also said that the country should cultivate
more international friends and should expose reality even to its
international enemies.
Western Province Governor Alavi Mowlana also spoke. |
