New stocks of petrol released

"All stocks of petrol which came in for question during the past several days, have been removed from the market. New stocks of petrol have now been released to the market," said Kolonnawa Lanka Petrol Wholesale Storage Terminal Company chairman Major General M R W de Soysa.

He said the people need not fear to purchase petrol.

"Action has been taken to make petrol available in all the areas without any shortage," Major General de Soysa said. Petroleum Industries Minister Susil Premajayantha who took quick action after being informed that 20,000 metric tons of petrol with low quality had been issued to the market, instructed officials to withdraw the 20,000 mt in question. The minister had also ordered to distribute the new stock of petrol imported on June 29. Major General de Soysa also said that his company is responsible for supplying petrol to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation and Lanka Indian Oil Company. Stocks had already been issued to those two institutions, he said.

The chairman added that the newly imported stocks of petrol were issued to the market only after tests.

He also said there is no shortage of petrol in the country.
