The efforts to upgrade technology and improve efficiency will result
in better production process where the customers could benefit.
The new factory will ensure modernising of the production process and
enhancing capacity while bring in third party manufacturers into one
location, he said.
“The factory is a BOI venture where the land is acquired on a
long-term lease. We have not made any plans on the future of the old
premises where the factory was located and in time to come will decide
on the course of action,” he said.
The industrial park at Horana comprises all modern facilities and
services including common infrastructure facilities. Horana has emerged
as having the best enabling environment for private sector enterprises
as indicated in the overall Economic Governance Index (IGE) rating.
“With the new factory in place Unilever will be able to provide over
2,000 direct employment and also a large number of indirect employment
opportunities. The company markets 27 brands in 11 categories where all
are market leaders in the respective segments.” |
