”Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage has appointed the new
Interim Committee with great expectations and we will work towards the
present and the future and it is not my call to rake up the past of a
hallowed institution such as Sri Lanka Cricket,” Dharmadasa told the
Daily News yesterday.
Dharmadasa and his Interim Committee took over mantle of Sri Lanka
Cricket, yesterday (4) at the auspicious time of 10.01 am where the
traditional oil lamp was lit followed by the partaking of milk rice and
traditional sweetmeats. History has repeated itself with grisly accuracy
with Dharmadasa taking over Sri Lanka Cricket yesterday having served as
President of the then Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka from
1989-1995 and also in 1996-1998 while his elder brother Jayantha
Dharmadasa was the Chairman of the Interim Committee in 2005-2006.
I am glad to work with a well known Committee comprising Sidath
Wettimuny who is also adored and respected the world over for his
cricketing prowess while there are two eminent members in Businessmen –
Janashakthi Insurance Chairman Prakash Schaffter and Nimal Perera of
Hayleys and Vallibel One fame, he said.
He also said that whether it is the Interim Committee or the regular
committee of SLC comes under the aegis of the Ministry of Sports and
that he and his Committee will abide by the Board Committee all the
time.
Asked about the rampant corruption allegations against the just
deposed Interim Committee and widely reported in both the print and
electronic media, he said that despite all the allegations that the
situation was not as bad as reported. He also reminded of the hoary
Sinhala idiom which says that that the devil was not as dark as
perceived to be!!
Asked about his personal sentiments about two brothers of the same
family serving as Heads of Sri Lanka Cricket, he said that commitment to
sports has been a family passion and that he and the family will assist
any one who needs assistance in the sporting arena. |
