Tangalle PS chairman's vehicle shot at
Lunugamvehera group corr
Some unidentified persons are alleged to have opened fire at the
vehicle of Tangalle Pradeshiya Sabha chairman Sampath Vidanapathirana
while passing Rotte road, Witharandeniya around 2.30 am yesterday,
according to a complaint lodged at the Beliatte police station.
Vidanapathirana who was travelling in the vehicle is reported to be
unhurt.
Beliatte Police are investigating.
PC's death: Police rule out murder

The body of a police constable attached to the Ministerial Security
Division was found at Cotta Road, Borella yesterday. Police ruled out
murder.
According to Police Spokesman SP Prishantha Jayakody, Borella Police
are investigating.
He said that the police constable is believed to have died after
falling off a wall.
The body was taken to hospital for a postmortem.
Lions' Club AGM
The annual general meeting and the election of office bearers of the
Diyawanna Oya Lions Club District 306 C-1 will be held at Casablanca
Hotel, Kottawa on July 3 at 7 pm. Former Lions Governor Kassapa Mahendra
Silva will be the chief guest.
Dr Preethi Kulatunge, Mali Hewage and Chandana Balasuriya are due to
be installed as the new president, secretary and treasurer.
Suspect nabbed with cannabis haul
The Navy and STF apprehended a person with cannabis weighing 17 kgs
in Polhena, Kelaniya on June 29. A scale and a sword were also taken
into custody.
The suspect and the items were handed over to Kelaniya Police.
Woman held in drug case

Police investigating a drug racket in Kekirawa, found 21.250 grammes
of heroin hidden in a house in Madatugama and arrested a woman resident
on suspicion.
Illegal lodgers in bus stand nabbed

Matara Police arrested 12 persons including a woman and three
children who were lodging illegally at the Matara bus stand premises.
Complaints had been received that these persons were responsible for
littering, consuming liquor and other nefarious activities within the
premises.
New water project

A new drinking water supply project has commenced in the Minuwangoda
area under the Supiri Gamak – Supiri Ratak programme.
Rs 45 million has been allocated for this project which is carried
out under the guidance of Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa.
The people of Wagowuwa Gartlandwatte and many other villages will
benefit.

H P Ajith Priyankara, 38, of 55, Dambuwawatta, Horampella,
Minuwangoda is suffering from an acute heart ailment. Doctors have
recommended a surgery (PTCA and stenting) to save his life, which is
estimated to be Rs 400,000.

NARA vacancies

The crossing road from Wagowuwa Ambalama to Veyangoda road which was
in a dilapidated condition is now carpeted under the Sapiri Gamak-Supiri
Ratak programme. Rs. 9 million is spent for this road project under the
guidance of Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa.
Prize giving
The annual prize giving of the Colombo South International College,
Kalubowila will be held at 3.00 pm today at the College Auditorium.
Clarence Seimon, the Country Examinations Deputy Manager of the
British Council will be the chief guest. Entertainment by students will
be part of the programme.
The highlight of the event will be the felicitation to be accorded to
student Rashmi Ruth Yalagala who became the first in the world in
accounting at the GCE A-L Edexel London Examination conducted in June
2010.
College Managing Director Mangala Wijekularatne will make the
presentation.

The ship, Logos Hope, which is involved in a world mission of
knowledge, help and hope with the largest floating book fair and
exhibition arrived at the Galle Port Thursday.
It was opened with the participation of Southern Province Governor
Kumari Balasuriya, Chief Minister Shan Wijayalal de Silva, Provincial
Minister U.G.D. Ariyathilake, and Galle Mayor Methsiri de Silva.
Guests led by the Captain Pat Tracy, were welcome by Governor Kumari
Balasuriya.

Three hundred government schools have joined hands with the Ayurvedic
Research Institute to maintain model herbal plants gardens.
The Ayurvedic Research Institute has launched a 'grow more herbal
plants for utilizing them for easy curing' campaign.
