Unite to defeat international conspiracies, says PM

The government's intention is to build an environment where all communities can lead their lives enjoying all benefits, said Prime Minister D M Jayaratne. He pointed out that the disputes among communities can only be solved through negotiation and not through clashes or by suppressing another party.

The Prime Minister was addressing a ceremony at the Vavuniya Cultural Centre to donate Rs 10 million to develop 100 kovils in the Vavuniya district under the national programme to develop religious centres. Another Rs 1.5 million was distributed among 15 Hindu dhamma schools.

"The law should operate equally to everybody in the country. The disputes among us should be solved on the basis of cordiality," he said. The Prime Minister also said that international conspiracies which attempt to spread disunity among our people are discernible.

He requested all communities to be united to defeat these international conspiracies.

Industry and Commerce Minister Rishad Bathiudeen, Vavuniya District secretary P S M Charles, Buddha Sasana and Religious Affairs Ministry secretary Cashiyan Herath and Public Trustee S Seneviratne also participated.
