Another 339 families resettled

Another 1,200 people from 339 families from Ananda Coomaraswamy and Kadirgamar IDP camps were resettled, said Resettlement Minister Gunaratne Weerakoon.

"So far 255,238 people have been resettled in the Northern Province and the rest will be resettled by year's end, he said.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed the authorities to expedite the resettlement process,' the minister said.

The minister said these areas were cleared of landmines and declared safe before resettlement of the IDPs.

The Resettlement Ministry will provide dry rations worth Rs 4,500 for six months to the newly resettled families. 'All infrastructure facilities will be provided to them.

The ministry will spend Rs 1.6 million to provide additional dry rations for the newly settled 339 families for six months.

Special milk packets will be provided to expectant mothers.
