St Sylvester’s College, Kandy put up a fine performance to score an
easy seven wicket over Dharmaraja College in their Schools Under-17
Division One cricket tournament match played at the Open Prison Camp
Grounds, Pallekele yesterday.
The Rajans batting first were off to a poor start losing their first
eight wickets for only 90. Then a dropped catch at short by Mel saw the
Rajans escape the ignominious of being dismissed for less than a
hundred.
The ninth wicket pair of K G N S Karunaratne (25) and Arvinda
Withanarachchi (26) put on 51 to bring some respectability to the total.
Off spinner Janith Perera took 5 for 35.
St Sylvester’s College in their turn at the wickets propped up by an
unbroken fourth wicket of 76 between Sumedha Dissanayake 38 not out and
U D Hettiarachchi 34 not out cruised to a seven wicket victory.
