Sylvestrians have it easy

St Sylvester’s College, Kandy put up a fine performance to score an easy seven wicket over Dharmaraja College in their Schools Under-17 Division One cricket tournament match played at the Open Prison Camp Grounds, Pallekele yesterday.

The Rajans batting first were off to a poor start losing their first eight wickets for only 90. Then a dropped catch at short by Mel saw the Rajans escape the ignominious of being dismissed for less than a hundred.

The ninth wicket pair of K G N S Karunaratne (25) and Arvinda Withanarachchi (26) put on 51 to bring some respectability to the total. Off spinner Janith Perera took 5 for 35.

St Sylvester’s College in their turn at the wickets propped up by an unbroken fourth wicket of 76 between Sumedha Dissanayake 38 not out and U D Hettiarachchi 34 not out cruised to a seven wicket victory.
