Two charged for selling unhygienic food

Panadura Magistrate R S A Dissanayaka issued summons on a hotel owner
and a catering house owner in Panadura to appear before Court for
possessing and exhibiting unhygienic food to be sold to the public. This
was sequel to plaints filed by Panadura Urban Council Public Health
Inspector D Amarawansa under the Food Act No 26 of 1980.
PHI Amarawansa with health officials raided the eating houses and
hotels in the Panadura town and drew samples of food sold to the public
and forwarded to the National Health and Scientific Institute at
Kalutara for laboratory tests.
Dr M V S C Pathirana and D Sugatha Pathirage, the National Health and
Science Institute Analysts in Kalutara, confirmed that the samples were
bacteriologically unsatisfactory.
On the findings of the medical report Panadura Urban Council’s Public
Health Inspector Amarawansa filed plaints.
