The first Friendship Band of the Sri Lanka Youth Society Association (SLYSA) to mark Friendship Band Week was presented to President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees yesterday. SLYSA Secretary Saman Kumara tied the first Friendship Bands on the wrist of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Friendship Bands were also presented to Minister of Youth Affairs Dullas Alahapperuma and Deputy Minister Duminda Dissanayake. The wearing of friendship band was implemented as a SLYSA fund raiser.

The revenue will be used for future SLYSA projects. This Friendship Band was introduced this year instead of a flag. Sri Lanka Youth Society Association chairman and National Youth Council chairman Lalith Piyum Perera said the revenue from the sale of Friendship Bands will be used to construct houses under ‘Thurunu Wasarak Gamata Niwasak’.
