Indian HC felicitates Amaradeva

Outstanding Sri Lankan musician Pandit W.D. Amaradeva was felicitated by Indian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka Ashok K Kantha at India House, Colombo yesterday. The event was organised by the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka.

External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris said it was a privilege to felicitate a musician like Pandit Amaradeva. “We are a nation rediscovering its values and experiencing a new era, uplifting Sri Lanka’s pride and status.

Pandit Amaradeva’s contribution to Sri Lankan music cannot be described in words.” he said. “We are proud and very happy that this brilliant musician has enriched his music performance in India,” he stated.

High Commissioner Kantha said it was an honour to felicitate Pandit Amaradeva.

Indian High Commissioner Kantha to presented a memorial plaque to Pandit Amaradeva. Ministers Dr Sarath Amunugama and Vasudeva Nanayakkara and Prof K.N.O. Dharmadasa also spoke. Prof. Carlo Fonseka, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga and Prof Ashley Halpe also participated.
