Choppy day for Colombo shares

Colombo shares ended up on a another choppy day of operation where benchmark indices had hardly displayed any direction during the day. However, at the end of the day, indices closed in the negative territory with notable losses.

All Share Price Index (ASPI) had dropped by 31.43 points (-0.46%) and ended at 6,862.83 whereas sensitive MPI posted a drop of 34.13 points (-0.53%) to close at 6,395.78.

The market turnover improved to Rs.2.3bn. Central Finance Company Plc was the top turnover with the amount recorded at Rs.627.8mn. In addition, Environmental Resources Plc (Rs.243.1mn) and Distilleries Plc (Rs.94.8mn) made notable contributions to the daily turnover.

In the meantime, active investor participation was witnessed in environmental resources counters (voting and warrants), Dankotuwa Porcelain Plc and Blue Diamonds Jewellery Plc. Lanka Securities Research
