Rs 5 b investment:
SLCC to construct luxury building in Kollupitiya

Sri Lanka Cement Corporation (SLCC), owned by Sri Lankan Government
is to construct a 25-storeyed luxury building in Kollupitiya with a Rs 5
billion investment. At the moment, SLCC is in the process of clearing
the lands in the above area to start the construction work of the
project. The building will consist of a rotating restaurant, banquet
hall with 5000 seating capacity and international food chains. Remaining
space in the building is to be rented for banks and various official
requirements.

“In addition, the Sri Lanka Cement Corporation and the Lanka Cement
Ltd (LCL) will initially invest approximately Rs 25 million to build a
hotel school and a hotel in Kankesanthurai area and the project will be
started on a total land extent of 881 acres which belongs to the Sri
Lanka Cement Corporation. At the initial stage of the hotel project, it
will have 10 cabanas and will be more cabanas will be added in the
future. The hotel school will also provide training opportunities for
over 200 youth in Vavuniya district”, Sri Lanka Cement Corporation and
Lanka Cement Limited Chairman Sisira Jinendra Paranagama told Daily News
Business.
“To support the on going Uthuru Wasanthaya programme, the SLCC is in
the process of manufacturing electricity poles, telecommunication poles
and pavement blocks to cater to housing and other development needs of
people living in the Northern area. We see a huge demand for electricity
and telecommunication poles and pavements blocks with the construction
boom and ongoing rehabilitation process in the Northern area and SLCC
will provide these concrete products at a concessionary price for people
in these areas,” he said.
At present, electricity and telecommunication poles and pavements
blocks are being manufactured at the Kankeshan Concrete Works factory,
in Kankesanthurai which comes under the governance of the SLCC and the
LCL.
Talking about the future investments in the Kankeshan Concrete Works,
Paranagama said SLCC in collaboration with LCL will inject approximately
Rs 10 million in six months to increase the factory’s production
capacity while increasing the present 100 employee base to 500 in the
near future. It is also planed to manufacture concrete doorframes and
walls to facilitate the budget house requirement of the people in
Jaffna.
