Govt - TNA talks to continue

“Talks between the government and Tamil party members will not be interrupted due to the alleged incident of assault on TNA Parliamentarians at Alaveddi in Jaffna,” said acting Cabinet Spokesman and Environment Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa.

The minister was addressing the weekly Cabinet press briefing at the Information Department yesterday.

He said that the government is conducting a special investigation regrading the incident and the Prime Minister in Parliament also assured the security of TNA MPs. Answering a question raised by a journalist on the UNP’s allegation that the government is not disclosing the contents of Commission reports to the public, the minister stated that the government will publish Commission reports after those were brought to the notice of the President.

“The President takes a series of action based on those reports. The reports can be published only after that,” he observed. The minister also pointed out that the Commission report on the Katunayake incident cannot be made public at the moment since a court case and investigations are being conducted on the issue. “We have to facilitate the law of the land to operate without any hindrance,” he noted.
