Medical camp for teachers

A medical camp for present and past teachers organized by the Old Anandians 75-80 group, an affiliated group of the Old Boys' Association of Ananda College, Colombo, organized for the 17th consecutive year will be conducted on June 26 from 9am at the college premises.

This camp will be attended by over 35 specialist doctors and will also have the services of ayurvedic treatment, laboratory testing and ECGs, physiotherapy, eye clinic, dental care, cancer detection etc.


Loyola College walk

Negombo Loyola College will conduct their annual 'Loyolian Walk 2011' for the second successive year on June 26 at 7 am from the college ground after special Holy Mass.

MaClarens Limited Managing Director Rohan de Silva will be the chief guest.

Rector and Director Rev Fr Trevor Martin, staff and parents are organizing the event.


Industrial exhibition tomorrow

The Colombo district industrial exhibition as the first stage of the domestic industries programme under the Divi Neguma campaign organized by the Economic Development Ministry with the aim of improving the nutrition and living standards of one million families will be held at the Homagama Central College premises on June 25 and June 26 from 9 am to 5 pm.

All institutions coming under the Ministries of Traditional Industries and Small Entrepreneur Development, Industries and Commercial Affairs, Research and Technological, Youth Affairs and Skills Development and State Resources and Entrepreneur Development will participate in this exhibition.


BIA emergency preparedness tested

A mock drill to test the emergency preparedness was conducted at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) by the airport authorities yesterday.

Security Forces, Police and the Airport officials participated in the mock drill which started at around 8 pm yesterday.

This mock drill included a combined operation to rescue 138 passengers of a plane that has skidded off the runway at the airport.


Wildlife Dept in new initiative

Wildlife Director General Chandrawansa Pathiraja told the Daily News that the Wildlife Department is experimenting with a solar power system to pump water from the Menik river to reservoirs at the Yala National Park. "If the system is successful the Wildlife Department expects to introduce it to other National Parks such as Kumana, Gal-Oya and Wilpattu," the Director General said.

This project is being implemented as a trial at the Yala Park.

The Annual General Meeting of the Kingswood Union Colombo Branch will be held on Saturday June 25 at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute at 100, Independence Square, Colombo 7, commencing 6 pm.
