National Mosquito Control Week:
Over 48,800 dengue- breeders warned

Health authorities yesterday severely warned 48,841 owners of
premises who had mosquito breeding places, on the fourth day of the
national mosquito eradication week. Mosquito eradication programmes were
implemented on the fourth day of the National Mosquito Eradication Week,
where officials inspected 305 zones in 305 medical officers of Health
Division throughout the island.
Authorities visited 84,509 premises of which 24,982 were found to
have the risks of breeding mosquitoes.
Owners of 48,841 premises were warned while it was decided to take
legal action against 1,811 owners of premises. The third day of the
countrywide National Mosquito Control Week saw the detection of 2,255
places with dengue mosquito larvae and legal action taken against 2,500
people who had dengue mosquito breeding places within their properties,
a Health Ministry Spokesman said.
According to the spokesman, inspectors detected 18,523 potential
dengue mosquito breeding sites during their inspections and issued
warnings to 40,295 persons. |
