Country's IT workforce doubles in four years
During the past four years the country's IT workforce grew by 100
percent the ICT Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) CEO Reshan Dewapura said at
the launch of the National ICT Workforce Survey.
While the IT workforce of the country in 2006 was 30,120 it has
increased to 62,000 by now, the latest ICTA-initiative survey reveals.
The number of employees in the country's IT sector in 2010 exceeded
50,000.
This survey on the national IT workforce was carried out under the
ICTA Monitoring and Evaluation Division.
The findings of this survey are based on information gathered from
510 organizations which participated in the survey, namely, 80
government institutions, 325 private sector organizations, 30 IT/BPO
companies and 75 IT training organizations, Dewapura said.
ICTA CEO Reshan Dewapura said that the number of IT graduates in the
country in 2010 was 4473 and that it is significant that out of them
3,970 are employed. (RK) |
