Ramani KANGARAARACHCHI
Formulation of a new policy, a strategy and an action plan for human
resources and employment is imperative to meet the emerging challenges,
Human Resources and Employment Senior Minister D E W Gunasekara said
yesterday, speaking at the first national seminar on the formulation of
the National Human Resources and Employment Policy.
Senior Minister
D E W Gunasekara |
He said that human resource development is part and parcel of
national development planning and therefore a solid human development
strategy is required to provide meaningful employment opportunities to
an expanding labour force.
Sri Lanka is a part of the globalized world where there is intense
competition among countries to sell their goods and services.
Therefore, it is necessary to identify those areas where the country
could be competitive in the future.
It should be prepared to meet the requirements of technology and
skills through a system of time-bound programming and implementation, he
said.
Referring to the private sector, he said that they make a valuable
contribution to the overall HRD efforts and have to be encouraged to
align their programmes and incentives provided. |
