First lady golfer Pam passes away

Sri Lanka's First Lady Golfer Pam Fernando passed away yesterday at her residence at the ripe old age of 84.

She was the wife of Golf maestro Pin Fernando and mother of the vice captain of the Royal Colombo Golf Club and Tiru Fernando Sri Lanka's only Lady Tour Professional.

Pam Fernando won the Sri Lanka Ladies Amateur title 5 times and also was the first Sri Lankan to win the Ladies Amateur. Her name appears in the Guiness Book of Records as the oldest winner of a national golf title.

The cremation takes place at Kanatte today 17th June 2011.
