Batik printing course

The National Craft Council has commenced a three month Batik printing
course for unemployed women at Chankanai, Jaffna.
The course was commenced under the proposal of Traditional Industries
and Small Enterprises Minister Douglas Devananda and guidance of
National Craft Council Chairman Buddhi Keerthisena.
The main target of the course is increasing living standards of
Northern women.
Musical show postponed
The Eastern Night Musical Show organized by the Security Forces
Headquarters East has been canceled.
An officer at the Security Forces Headquarters East said that the
Eastern Night Musical Show to be held at Minneriya Infantry Square
Playground on June 18, at Weber Playground, Batticaloa on June 25 and
Mac Gaisor playground, Trincomalee on July 2 have been canceled.
The musical show to be held on June 18 at Minneriya has been
postponed to July 2. (skm)
Launch of book, CD on environment
The Theory of existence, a book and CD on environment produced by
Nature Foundation Chairman Deshapriya Alahakoon will be launched at a
ceremony at the Colombo Public Library Auditorium on June 25 at 3 pm.
Ven Maduluwawe Sobitha Thera, Rev Fr Siri Oscar Abayaratne, Ven
Omalpe Sobitha Thera, Ven Wewelduwe Gnanaprabha Thera, Ven Eppawala
Mahamankadawala Piyaratana Thera, G K Upawansa and several other
scholars will participate.
Peace poster award ceremony
The Lions International Peace Poster award ceremony will be held
today at 3.00 pm at the Lions Activity Centre, Colombo 7. Immediate Past
District Governor, Lion Saliya Kaluarachchi will be the chief guest.
Poson week
Poson week which commenced at Yahamulla Bodhirukkarama sacred area on
June 13 will conclude with the laying of foundation stones for the
Sambuddhatva Jayanthi Dhamma hall by the Thailand Ambassador in Sri
Lanka on June 19 at 10.30 am.Buddha Sasana and Religious Affairs Deputy
Minister M K D S Gunawardana will lay the foundation stone for the
Atavisi Budukuti Bodhi Prakaraya on the same day.
Sri Sumangala OBA AGM
The 89th Annual General Meeting and get-together of Sri Sumangala
College, Panadura Old Boys' Association will be held on June 18.
The AGM and the election of office-bearers will be held at the
college main hall on June 18 at 8.30 am and the get-together at Villa
Ocean View Hotel at 7 pm. Old Boys, Urban Development Authority Chairman
Janaka Kurukulasooriya and specialist Dr Kosala de Silva will be the
chief guests. Two past pupils, Prof Kapila Perera and Priyantha DJ
Fernando will also be felicitated.
Memorial Oration
Dr P R Anthonis Memorial Oration organized by JICA Alumni Association
will be delivered by Prof Carlo Fonseka on 'The Future of Humanity' on
June 25 at 7.00 pm at the Auditorium of the Sasakawa Memorial Cultural
Centre, Colombo 3 Only invitees will be admitted.
Talk on central highlands
A talk on Central Highlands of Sri Lanka: newly inscribed World
Heritage by Leslie Wijesinghe, formerly of the Forest Department;
Additional Director General NARESA and country representative of IUCN,
will be held at the SLAAS Auditorium today at 5 pm.
Plant exhibition
The super flora flower and plants exhibition will be held at the
Vihara Maha Devi Park, Colombo from June 24 to 26. A variety of
vegetables, flowers, fruits and herbal plants will be on sale.
AGM
The Association of Muslim Women Professionals and Entrepreneurs will
hold its fourth Annual General Meeting at the CIS Hall, Rohini Road on
June 18 at 4 pm.
Get-together
The annual get-together of the Old Railway Officers' Guild will be
held on June 19 at 9.00 a.m at Mount Mary Dematagoda. |
