Oshin comes to Horton Place

One-time popular tele series Oshin is now available in book format. The book is authored by Sumithra Vitharana going along with the dubbed teledrama which was telecast on Rupavahini. The initial translation from English into Sinhala was by Titus Totawatte.

The book will be discussed at the Sri Lanka Press Council (near Mel Medura and Lanka Sumithrayo), Horton Place on June 17 at 4 pm. Rasadari Peries who voiced Oshin in the dubbed play will also take part. Oshin is published by Samudra Wettasinghe Publishers.


Colombo Colombo

Indika Ferdinando’s Colombo Colombo which received seven awards including Best Play of the Year at the National Theatre Festival 2010, will be staged at the Lionel Wendt Theatre on June 24, 3.30 and 7pm.

Ferdinando won Best Playwright and Best Director, while Anuasuya Subasinghe received the award for Best Performance - Female.

The play also clinched Best Music Composition, Best Choreography and Best Stage Management.

Colombo Colombo was the representative of Sri Lanka at the South Asian Women’s Theatre Festival 2010 and the Kathmandu International theatre Festival 2010. This tragi-comic musical play is fast-paced, theatrical, and bursting with energy.


Special treat for Dad at Park Street Mews

Father’s Day, inaugurated in the early 20th Century is a celebration honouring all Fathers and celebrating fatherhood, male parenting, paternal bonds and the influence of a Father’s role in society.

Sunday June 19, the world over celebrates Father’s Day and what better way to celebrate this day with the Head of the family and home than by taking him out for a special treat to the Park Street Mews.

Be it for lunch or dinner come to the Mews along with a minimum of 4 persons and partake of the special set menu in full (Starter, Main Course and Dessert) and the Man of the day gets to enjoy the set menu for free!

For starters, enjoy either the tandoori chicken salad or the Swiss cheese salad while for the main course make a choice from the either the seafood kebab with hot garlic sauce or beef with raisin and black peppercorn sauce with mash potato and sautéed vegetables and finish the course off with either the apple pie with Vanilla ice cream or frozen expresso with nuts and honey sauce.


Father’s Day offers at the Commons

With Fathers’ Day coming up we still find it difficult to think of a better way to express just how wonderful he is. Better yet treat him to an enjoyable meal at The Commons which offers a wide choice for all Dads to enjoy. They have prepared a ‘special menu’ with him in mind.

Their Father’s Day menu offers Daddy’s hangover frappe’, peanut butter milkshake, bacon and egg morning delight waffle, wasabi tuna double Decker burger or mixed seafood thermidor. There is a choice of desserts from the dessert cupboard if he or the rest of the family would like to enjoy something sweet and delectable. The whole family can join in on the fun with children taking part in the Fathers’ Day Children’s competition.

One can focus their creative talents and paint a “Thank You Dad” cup for Dad which he can keep as a memento and one also has the chance to win a prize. Material will be provided for this activity.

Italian menu awaits Dads at Bay Leaf

The Bay Leaf restaurant offers an Italian dining experience to entertain your father on Father’s Day – Sunday June 19.

The menu on offer by Chef Saroj include Zuppa di Asparagi - cream of asparagus chowder with prunes, inslata russa con salsa di avocado - marinated prawns with avocado, roasted bell peppers, green peas, and main course offers Fettuccine Polesina al Brandy - home made fresh pasta tossed with prawns, roasted red peppers, garlic, herbs and dash of brandy, Involtini di Salmone con Dentice - fillet of red snapper and fresh salmon, rolled with king prawns.


Wrap it up at the Mews

A Wrap is a variant of a Taco or a Burrito which includes traditional sandwich fillings ‘wrapped’ in a soft flour based Tortilla, Pita or other soft flat bread.

The Park Street Mews is having a Wrap Promotion till June 30 inclusive for both lunch and dinner.

Chicken is the most popular filling used for Wraps but other meats, seafood and veggies too are served. Typical toppings include shredded lettuce, diced tomato, guacamole, sautéed mushrooms, bacon, grilled onions, French fries, cheddar cheese and some condiments like a honey mustard dressing will be just right. At Mews, for the veggie lover there’s the roasted vegetable and mozarella cheese wrap served with potato wedges. Then, there’s the Seafood Wrap served with French fries and a salad.

Wraps make great party food and are indeed different from the normal sandwich. So if you are thinking of a quick light lunch or a not so heavy dinner or even an in between meal or tea time snack drop in this June to the Park Street Mews for a delicious and mouth watering Wrap.


Naribena

Dayananda Gunawardena’s Drama Naribena and Jasaya Saha Lenchina will be staged at the Lionel Wendt Theatre on June 26 at 3.30 and 7pm. Rodney Warnakula, Bandula Wijeweera, Sarath Kulanga, Gayani Prabuddika, Rathnasheela Perera, Jayanath Bandara, Saman Gunawardena, Sunil Thilakarathna, Wasantha Gunawardena and Indika Jayasinghe are in the cast.

Music is by Kapila Pugalaarachchi, Costumes by Airangani Gunawardena and dancing by Rohana Baddage.


Balloth Ekka Be

Two special shows of the hilarious comedy Balloth Ekka Be written and directed by Ravindra Ariyaratna, will be staged at the Lionel Wendt Theatre in Colombo 07 on June 25 at 3.30 and 7pm.

Starring are Wijaya Nandasiri, Roshan Pilapitiya, Gihan Fernando, Saman Hemarathna (Leelasena), Kumara Thirimadura, Sarath Kothalawela, Sarath Kulanga and Anusha Dissanayake. Stage management of Asoka de Zoysa and Shantha Udaya Kumara, the drama will be and experience too costly to miss.
