Chemanex PLC, a member of the CIC Group of Companies and a leader in
the manufacturing and exporting of value-added chemicals, has invested
Rs 78.12 million in a large scale eco-tourism project, The Rainforest
Eco-Lodge at Deniya, in the Sinharaja rain forest border.
This initiative is considered to be one of the most
spectacular projects earmarked to propel Sri Lanka's tourist and
hospitality industry firmly back in the limelight.
It also strives to underscore core principles centered on social and
environmental sustainability.
Managing Director and CEO Preethi Jayawardena said the company now
owns 24.8 percent of the total equity of Rainforest Eco-Lodge and
remains the largest shareholder.
Companies such as Jetwing Hotels, Aitken Spence Hotels, John Keells
Hotels and MAS are other significant partners.
The project had overcome many obstacles in the past, which delayed
implementation.
Jayawardena said the inaugural operations would commence during the
coming season, most probably by September this year. The company looks
towards building its image as a responsible and profitable corporate
giant, both locally and globally. |
